The Black Fly Challenge is one of the
foremost sporting events and the biggest bike racing event in the Adirondack
Park. First introduced as a mountain bike race, it has now evolved to event
which includes a wide cyclocross range of different types of bikes. You will
find cyclists in the event riding single-speed, three-set bikes, unicycles; and
even tandem bike teams. More than half the 40-mile track passes through the
Moose River Recreation Area and presents bikers with traction challenges and
varying elevations.
Biking expert riders finish under 2 hours
with the other casual riders taking up to 5 hours. The latest record has been
set by the Men’s Champion, Cory Burns, by completing the race in a little more
than 1 hour and 47 minutes. The Women’s Champion also set a new women’s record of
2 hours and 1 minute.
