The Amgen Tour of California is one of the most famous cycling events in North America and leading the BMC Racing team to victory was no mean task for Tejay van Garderen. The 24 year-old has been the winner of the best young rider title and has always dreamed of winning the first place white jersey. On May 19th, 2013 his dream came true, and how!
Van Garderen maintained his lead for the 3 final days of the race, finally completing the 8-day race in 29 hours and 43 minutes. He was able to have a smooth ride and cycled through the final course of the event from San Francisco to Santa Rosa without incident, winning his first professional stage cycling race title with a flourish. Michael Rogers from Australia and Janier Acevedo from Columbia came in second and third places, respectively.
With this win under his belt, Tejay van Garderen has now set his sights on the Tour de France which will be held this summer. At www.shiftcyclewear.com we would like to wish the very best to Tejay van Garderen and hope he has many more victories ahead of him.
